Part One Write the Dream and Separate the Symbols
The First Step You are interested in learning dream work. Here is where to begin: write out a dream, then separate the individual dream symbols — the images, objects, figures, colors, actions, and settings that appeared. Associate freely and personally to each one.
  • Associate only to the original symbol — avoid chain associations
  • Continue to expand your associations throughout the next week, returning each day
  • If your associations do not align with logic, stay with the illogical association

Part Two The Book of Symbols
Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism In Part Two, consult the Book of Symbols: The Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism. Look up each symbol and add the archetypal, etymological, and cross-cultural meanings alongside your personal ones from Part One. Notice where they meet — and where they diverge.
Associate only to the original symbol. If the Book's meaning feels illogical or surprising, stay with it — that friction is often where the work lives.

Serum (Step 1: medicinal, corrective) / Step 2: Etymology — Latin "serum" meaning whey. Book of Symbols: Milky Way, white moonlight, life-giving rain, unending nourishment, wet nurse for millions

White (Step 1: blank canvas, enlightenment) / Step 2: Soul departing, pale horseman of death, white cow of all desires, albedo in alchemy — illumination, dawning of the unknown personality in consciousness, merging of fire and ice

Chair (Step 1: sit, upright, support) / Step 2: More sizable than the ego, a "lap" encompassing both conscious and transconscious, throne as seat of cosmic unity, Isis, Tantric Lotus of the Heart, how we are seated in life

Brown (Step 1: autumn, ending) / Step 2: Dried blood, mixing of reds yellows and grays, softness, warmth, depth, respite, rust, chestnut
